Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball
Player Evaluation Form

Managers - The organization requests your help!!!!

GEYBA is looking for ways to improve our evaluation process from year to year. Obviously, the older leagues have evaluation days in March which will prove to hopefully be a great compliment to the data collected on this form. For the younger leagues, this will be the only way we have for each of the baseball participants evaluated.

Please take significant time and thought to put down your most accurate recollection of your players ability. Comments for each child would be mostly appreciated.

Here are some "rule of thumb" ideas on the rankings - Please use these as they would relate to the league the child just participated in. If in doubt - please just use your common sense!!!!

Hitting
1) Lacks fundamentals... Generally makes little contact.
2) Lacks fundamentals... Hits ground balls...Struggles making contact consistently
3) Generally gets it...Knows strike zone reasonably well..fairly consistent in making contact.. Struggles against harder throwers..Capable of line drives to outfield every so often.
4) Pretty solid fundamentally...Good contact against weaker pitchers...Good at bats against pitchers with good velocity..Consistently puts ball in play.
5) Solid fundamentally. Hits the ball hard against all pitchers. Number 3 or 4 hitter on any team.

Throwing
1) No fundamentals. Just a struggle.
2) Lacks fundamentals. No real arm strength. Basically lobs the ball.
3) Mechanics need work(pushes the ball). Generally can make all the throws, but lacking in arm strength. Throws erratic at times.
4) Mechanics need some work, but generally has good velocity and consistently makes all the throws hitting his/her target.
5) Solid mechanics. Gets it. Ball has good velocity and consistently hits their target.

Fielding
1) No fundamentals. 1 in 10 chance of making a play. Doesn't run to the ball. Generally afraid of the baseball.
2) Lacks fundamentals. Generally try to hide in the outfield. Gets to most balls. Struggles to catch it. Not real sure where to throw it once they get it.
3) Fundamentals pretty good. Needs work charging ball. Can catch ground balls when hit at him or her. Struggles when moving to either side. Trouble in judging pop-ups and fly balls.
4) Pretty solid on all ground balls. Handles pop-ups and fly balls well. Generally runs to the ball and in a position to make the play.
5) Fundamentals sound. Going to be the shortstop or first baseman on any team. Coach wants the ball hit to him/her when you need someone to make a play. Makes ALL the plays.

Pitchers

C Level- Can give you an inning, needs work, generally around the plate.

Lacks speed on pitches.

B Level-
Erratic at times, Can go 2 innings max. With work to can develop

into A Level pitcher. Decent speed on pitches.
A Level- Throws strikes, Can go 3 innings or more, #1 or #2 in rotation.

Good speed on pitches.

Catchers

C Level- Arm strength lacking a bit. One hops or lazy high throws to 2 nd.

Could give you an inning or 2 as long as the backstop isn’t too deep.

B Level-
Decent arm strength. A few balls get by. Needs work with glove and

movement. Could give you 2 innings at field with a deep backstop.

A Level- Has arm strength to make ALL the throws. Rarely misses good

pitches. Moves well behind the plate. Could give you 3+ innings.
