THANK
YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN BEING AN UMPIRE DURING THE
2008 GLEN ELLYN BASEBALL SEASON!
An important
part of preparing for this year's season is attending
mandatory Umpire Training sessions. If you have participated
in previous year's sessions, you will find that we will
be doing things a bit differently this year. This year,
training will be broken up into two "courses". Please note that no payment will be made this year for attending the training courses.
1st
and 2nd Year Umpires
This training will focus
on the skills necessary to be an outstanding baseball
umpire including:
·
Game Management ·
Working Behind the Plate ·
Working as a Field Umpire ·
Working as Part of an Umpire Crew ·
Critical Rules
Sunday,
March 2 and Sunday March 9, 6:30 8:30 pm at Hadley
Junior High School, Gym B
At
the conclusion of the second session, you will be required
to complete a written test that will measure your understanding
of the material taught during the umpire training sessions.
New this year you will be required to score at
least 75% on this test in order to work as a Glen Ellyn
Baseball umpire.
Shortly,
we will be scheduling all 1st year Umpires to work Maverick
practice games, as well. These game simulations
are an important part of the umpire training program and
are also required before you will be scheduled to work
your first official game.
Experienced
Umpires Experienced
Umpires will attend a single training session that will
focus on a discussion of the rules unique to each of
the different Glen Ellyn Baseball leagues. At the conclusion
of this session, umpires will be required to pass a
written rules test for the league that they will be
working in.
Sunday,
March 16, 6:30 8:30 pm at Hadley Junior High
School, Gym B.
