Glen Ellyn baseball offers several types of travel baseball:
Full Season TravelFor our 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14 year olds, players have an opportunity to tryout for a full time travel team. These tryouts occur in late summer. This allows the teams to practice in the wintertime, and be prepared to come out in “mid-season form” in early April. The full time travel season runs from early April through the end of July. These groups will also play in tournaments, but will also play in a “league” format with other teams from around the area. The full time players at the 10U, 11U and 12U will play approximately 40 games, 13U & 14U will play more games. Typically the full-time travel players will go to one out of state tournament, where they play some of the best kids in their age group in the Midwest. The goal of our full time teams is to ready the players for high school play.
Short Season Travel
For the 9 – 14 year olds, there is a short season travel, which allows players to play with their friends in our house league program from the end of April to the end of June. In late May, players tryout for the short season travel team. The travel season typically runs from just after 4th of July through the end of July, and typically includes playing in 4-5 different tournaments. One of these tournaments is typically at home, here in Glen Ellyn.
What is part-time travel baseball?Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball offers a Part-time Summer Baseball program for those individuals interested in a competitive
environment after the conclusion of the in-house season.
Who can tryout?Any baseball player enrolled in the In-House program who feels
their baseball skills can match up against the best within their age
group.
What is the commitment involved to participate?
Players must be able to participate in 3 of the 4 weeks in which tournaments are scheduled during the month of July. Players are also expected to attend practices which will vary amongst age groups and at coaches discretion.
What is the cost per player?
The actual cost for part-time travel players for 2010 is:
$200 - resident
$300 - non residentThis fee covers a jersey and hat as
well as four tournaments and weekly practices.
How many teams will there be?
Glen Ellyn will field teams at the 9 years old and under, 10U, 11U and 12U levels. There will be one 13U as well as 14U level.
How are the players selected?Players are evaluated at a tryout which will test their skills at fielding, hitting, throwing and pitching against those of their peers.
Evaluators will be travel coaches and individuals from both the Tryout Committee and Travel Committee of the Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball program.
Colt baseball is for 15 & 16 year old players and Palomino is for 17 & 18 year old players. Colt & Palomino ball are as fun for the guys who play on their high school teams as it is for those who are more interested in recreational baseball. Regardless of your talent, if you want to play baseball as a 15-18 year old, you can play in these leagues. These groups do not have a house league available to them, so the season starts in late June (after the high school season) and runs through the end of July. Teams are made up depending on talent, so no one gets left on the bench.
What is the birthdate cutoff for each respective age group?
It is important to note that the Pony Baseball Association (group that governs baseball programs across the country) recently made a change to the age requirement needed to participate in a Travel Program. The new cutoff will be May 1st (the old cutoff was August 1st). In order to understand what age group your child can play, ask yourself the question, “How old is my child on May 1st?” Whatever age that is, that is the team he may tryout for.
